Like many of us, our client had realised during the pandemic that his spare room wasn’t big enough for all the different activities he needed to use it for. Seeking a solution, he approached us for a multifunctional space where he could work from home and also house his workout equipment.

Collaborating closely with the client, planning advisor, and local authority, we meticulously ensured that the building complied with planning restrictions and passed building control regulations. At Outsiders, we can recommend a planning specialist to facilitate the process if required.
The building is thoughtfully divided into two spacious areas, complemented by a shower room and a compact storage room. In addition to the standard heating, electrical, and hardwired data installation package, we incorporated air conditioning and managed the installation of a new water and waste supply, ensuring functionality and comfort.

Gym space
The “chillout room” offers an ideal space for playing pool or hosting movie nights with friends, providing both teenagers and adults with a place to socialise. Its large bifold doors create a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor spaces, making it versatile for warm summer evenings.
To enhance natural light and ventilation, we added a 3-pane lozenge window on the back wall. For sufficient headroom during exercise, we designed a recessed ceiling in the gym space. The shower room’s sanitary ware installation and tiling were completed to a high standard by Outsiders.
Externally, the building boasts tongue and groove Cedar cladding and down-lighters, with an overhang along the front fitted with recessed spots. A large wrap-around deck was installed, providing the family with a space to enjoy their garden on warmer evenings.
