Created to extend the clients’ living space, this generous garden room provides a relaxed and comfortable second living room, with plenty of space to sit, spend time together and enjoy the garden beyond.

Green cladding

  • Distinctive green Millboard cladding
  • Five-metre grey bi-fold doors
  • Integrated blinds within the glazing
  • Four fixed floor-to-ceiling glass panels

The coloured Millboard cladding is the defining feature of the design. Rather than choosing a darker or more traditional exterior, the clients opted for a soft green finish that gives the building its own personality while helping it feel completely at home in the garden.

The subtle wood-grain texture adds warmth and depth to the exterior, while the gentle colour changes with the light and sits beautifully alongside the surrounding lawn, planting and mature trees. Dark grey frames, fittings and exterior lights provide a crisp contrast, giving the finished room a contemporary edge.

Bright living space

The colour choice also softens the clean, modern shape of the building. Against the grey glazing and fittings, the muted green cladding feels warm and individual, while still allowing the room to sit quietly within the wider garden rather than dominate it.

A five-metre run of bi-fold doors opens almost the entire front elevation, turning the living room into an open-sided garden space in warmer weather. Integrated blinds sit neatly within the glass, providing shade and privacy without interrupting the clean lines of the glazing.

Four narrow floor-to-ceiling glass panels bring additional light into the room and frame smaller views of the garden from inside. With its simple white interior, warm flooring and deep blue sofas, the room feels calm, spacious and designed for unhurried time together.

The green Millboard transforms what could have been a simple contemporary structure into a garden room with real individuality. Soft enough to complement the landscape but distinctive enough to make an impact, it creates a beautifully considered exterior for this light-filled second living room.
