Blessed by open fields and endless skies, the home of our Ipswich client also had no shortage of space. But they wanted a separate, multi-use, home away from home office and chill out space that wouldn’t be constrained by the style of their traditional property, while also blending seamlessly and unobtrusively into its surrounds.

Multi use space
Features
A stone’s throw from the main house and bordering the adjoining field, the resulting garden room is finished elegantly in Antique Oak Millboard cladding that merges sympathetically with the property’s rustic brick façade and sandstone paving.
Full-width, bi-fold doors open onto a Tardis-like space that manages to house a TV den, gym corner, desk area and telescope viewing point. And together with the doors, picture windows strategically placed on three walls maximise the stunning views over the surrounding countryside.

‘We love it so much. It’s our favourite ‘room’ in the whole house.’

Integrated internet access and heating installed as standard turns the space into a cosy cinema room, while come the warmer months, the room turns into a bright and breezy summer house that opens onto a pretty sun-trap patio filled with complimentary garden furniture.
Lighting the way to the main house, exterior lights installed around the front canopy and side of the garden room also provide atmosphere at dusk.
The new addition to this Suffolk home is proving to be a pleasurable and practical space all round.
The Outsider’s Verdict
‘The view from our client’s property is absolutely breathtaking, and we knew we had to create a design that took full advantage of the stunning countryside vistas.
We designed this garden room strategically, placing the structure in a place where you get uninterrupted views, and incorporating plenty of doors and windows to fill the office and den with light. By day, the fields fill the picture window, and after dusk, you’re treated to star-filled night skies, making it both a productive office space and a restful place to hang out.’
