Designed as a comfortable home office for two, this bespoke garden room also needed to provide somewhere to relax at the end of the working day, along with practical storage for bikes, tools and garden equipment.

Ply lined walls and ceiling
Features
The L-shaped design brings all three uses together within one carefully considered building. A long shared desk creates a dedicated workspace with plenty of room for two people, while open shelving provides useful storage without making the office feel cluttered. At the opposite end of the room, a sofa and television create a more relaxed area that can be enjoyed outside working hours.
Decorative plywood lines the walls and ceiling, giving the interior a warm, natural finish. The pale timber creates a calm backdrop for the brighter furnishings and contrasts beautifully with the dark exterior and black-framed glazing.

The L-shaped design allowed us to incorporate generous storage while creating a much cosier and more inviting entrance to the main room

Natural light was an important part of the design. The bi-fold doors open the room towards the garden, while a large skylight draws daylight into the centre of the space. A high-level window brings in further light while maintaining privacy.
The integrated store is positioned at the front of the building and concealed behind the same dark Millboard cladding as the main room. It provides dedicated space for bikes, garden tools and equipment without the need for a separate shed elsewhere in the garden. Its position also shapes the L-shaped layout, creating a cosier and more welcoming approach to the office. A shallow 500mm pergola adds definition overhead and forms a gentle transition from the garden into the room.
The Outsider’s Verdict
This project proves that a garden office can offer far more than somewhere to sit at a desk. It is a comfortable workspace for two, a relaxed room to enjoy beyond office hours and a practical storage solution, all contained within one cohesive design.
