The addition of a wood-burning stove creates a warm and inviting atmosphere in this garden room. Adding in a sofa and a desk area, a cup of hot tea is always on tap, to fuel our clients’ creativity.

Our client in St Albans, Hertfordshire, came to us to design and build a cosy writing room, nestled in their wildlife garden. Together we decided that The Lodge was the perfect room for the space.

With its soffit overhang, we were able to install outside spotlights for some evening atmosphere, along with a wood burning stove to give this garden room a real alpine feel.

Sofa comfort

Hidden in among the trees, our clients decided to clad their new room in IROKO, a hardwood known for its strength, durability and resistance to rot and insects.

We clad the inside with plywood which our clients painted later on. The floor-to-ceiling windows bring the garden into the room, the perfect peaceful place away from distractions.

I decided to have a garden room installed after needing a bit more space to work and not wanting the expense or disruption of undergoing house alterations. After some online research I invited Outsiders and one other company to quote, I was really pleased with the Outsiders team from the outset. Rob was friendly and professional, we talked through the design and made a few tweaks over email before work commenced, which was all very easy.

During the works the team were always professional and friendly, the external contractors too. After completion the team tidied up and left minimal mess. I am very happy with the finished building, the finish and design is exactly as I wanted.
